As a former paid member of Flickr (back before Yahoo ruined a lot of things about it) I'm more inclined to pack up all my stuff and leave than pay the new owners for anything, so really I need to decide if I'm going to do without photos or self-host. Self-hosting is a hassle, though. Imgur is actually a not bad host and has shown good stability and a good feature set, but it's best for public photos, not private ones.
I'm waiting for Google Voice and Gmail to get sunsetted, too. They're more popular and turnkey than G+ was, but still, Google has shown repeatedly that they really don't care if they demolish a market by providing a service for free, and then abandon a niche with no alternatives. It means basically waiting for other sites to play catch-up after Google gets bored of co-opting a niche. It makes the "free" stuff Google provides a lot less appetizing.
